The Neighborhood Beautification Initiative (NBI) was developed to provide funding, management, and installation services for the beautification of existing neighborhoods to the benefit of the entire Village. Funding will be provided to those projects that are deemed appropriate and that show consensus and a significant neighborhood commitment. Projects should be directed towards improving the appearance of the neighborhood while also being noticeable to the rest of the community. The program is administered by the Community Development Committee with projects authorized by the full Board of Trustees.

Funding budget : $25,000Grants for the FY 09-10 were awarded. Applications received after June 1, 2009 will be held for the next grant award cycle.
Maximum grant level per project: TBD
Grant applications will be accepted considered, and potentially funded until all grant funds are depleted. Unfunded but eligible projects will be cataloged and receive consideration in subsequent fiscal years.
Each project application should provide a match contribution such as volunteer time, cash, material, other donations and professional services.
Qualifying projects include but not limited to:
Tree plantings in public or quasi public right of ways
Entryway and corner enhancements including: entryway lighting, gravel removal and replacement of with turf grasses, native plantings, or concrete shoulders.
Paths and walks as appropriate or possible.
Comprehensive signage replacement.
Rain gardens or similar projects.
Criteria for selection:
Neighborhood consensus: projects must show proof of consensus.
Neighborhood commitment: such as financial contribution or cost share, maintenance agreement, volunteers, materials, plans, or previous or current neighborhood projects, perhaps uncompleted.
Public impact: visible to the neighborhood and better the entire community.
Best practices: projects should improve storm water management, pollution control, etc.
Application submittal requirements:
Project plan including location and some detail of project.
Cost estimates including:
Estimate of total project cost. Total Neighborhood Contribution.
Specify funding, services, volunteer hours and/or material that will be provided by your neighborhood and partner organizations for the project.
Estimate of funding amount requested.
Letter of approval from your Homeowners Association if applicable.
Letter of neighborhood consensus, survey, petition or other proof of awareness and acceptance.
Describe how this project will be maintained in future years. (May not be required for projects completed on Village right-of-way)
