Building permits are required for certain types of construction in and around your home. This includes but is not limited to remodeling, room additions, pools, fences, patios, decks, gazebos, sprinkler systems, sheds, etc. Permits are required for roofing tear-offs. Inspections are required for most construction projects during and aftercompletion to be certain that the work is following the Lake Barrington Municipal Code and that no damage has occurred to the roads and right-of-ways as a result of the construction project. Please contact the Building Permit Coordinator at 847-381-6010 if you have questions regarding whether or not your project requires a permit.
Watershed Development Building permits and/or Village approval is needed under certain circumstances, i.e. any work that can impede drainage, affect storm water management, or affect natural waterways (lakes, ponds, creeks, rivers). This includes site development and installation of piers, seawalls, or imported materials (sand, gravel) on or along waterways. See watershed development permit requirements. Fire Sprinkler Systems Indoor sprinkler systems are required of all new construction homes and are sometimes required for home additions. For more information, please refer to the Lake Barrington Municipal Code or contact your local Fire Department, listed below.
